Since 1997, France is β by virtue of its territories in the Pacific Ocean (French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis-and-Futuna) β an associate member of the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC), a tripartite organization created in 1980 at the initiative of the Prime Ministers of Japan and Australia.
PECC's mission is to strengthen economic relations between the two shores of the Pacific by bringing together governments, businesses, and the academic world. The organization regularly provides forward-looking analyses to APEC as well as to the WTO, OECD, and UNCTAD.
The France-Pacific Territories Economic Cooperation Committee is recognized as the most active member of the organization.

The PECC (Pacific Economic Cooperation Council) was founded in 1980 at the initiative of Masayoshi Ohira and Malcolm Fraser, Prime Ministers of Japan and Australia. It brings together leaders and decision-makers from the public and private sectors to discuss major issues in the Asia-Pacific region.
PECC's community-building efforts led to the creation of the official APEC process in 1989. PECC is one of three official observers of APEC.
The PECC International Secretariat is based in Singapore.
